First Impressions Before Reading The Book
I bought this for my kindle so I could read it whilst I was on holiday, after browsing either the horror or the thriller category. It was advertised as a Costa book award winner, and “The British Book Awards Winner Book of the Year 2016”. Which is a tall statement to make, so I figured it must be pretty decent. The summary reads;
*Before you read this, I haven’t explicitly said all of what happens in, or at the end of the book, but it is kind of spoilery, so if that thing upsets you, you might not want to read this!*
First impressions before reading the book:
I already knew the entire plot of the book, as I’ve seen the film many, many times. Normally I try to hold off watching films until I’ve read the book version, but in this case I don’t think I was aware of the book prior to seeing the film. I do love the film, therefore I went into this book knowing what happened, but I was still excited to read it.
This month has been so crazy for so many reasons, and I can’t believe that it’s April already! So with another month, comes another of my music top 10s. Music is a massive part of my life and I love looking back at everything I’ve been listening to for the past month.
1. Marks To Prove It by The Maccabees
I’m obsessed with this. The Maccabees are a fantastic band, but this song is something else. It’s so catchy and the video is quite cool, if a bit trippy. Gold star.
And I am back with another thrilling instalment of my music top 10. I’m afraid that my concerns from last month that these would all feature the same songs is still somewhat true, but it’s almost all new ones in there, surprisingly! I listen to a lot of music, but I’m one of those terrible serial repeaters. You know, the people who listen to songs on repeat for hours and then get so sick of it they can’t bear to listen to the song anymore? Yep, that’s me.
1. Got Well Soon by Breton.
I’m sorry. I did think it was likely that this song would make a reappearance, because it’s still one of my absolute favourites right now. I wonder if i’ll ever get sick of it. I love Breton anyway, but that backing track is just sooooo good. If you want to know what I said about it before, you can read my last post here.
First impressions before reading the book:
I bought this for my kindle on Amazon because it said if you liked Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train (both of which I’ve already read) you would enjoy this book. I read the description which says; But is Leah all she seems? Or does she deserve everything she gets? Everyone has secrets. But some are deadly.” That sounded interesting to me so I decided to give it a go. I’d never heard of the author, or read any reviews on it, but it is rated 4 out of 5 stars on Amazon.
So I thought it would be fun, since I’m obsessed with music (listening, not playing… I have the musical talent of a block of wood) to start a ‘Top 10’ according to Last.Fm of the songs that I’ve been loving that month. Then I can look back on all the music i’ve been loving throughout the year, and everyone else can get a sort of music recommendation from me!
Fair warning, I am a serial repeater of songs. I listen to them over and over until I can’t stand to hear them anymore, so the likelihood of songs appearing in more than one month is extremely likely.
So without further ado, my top 10 played songs of January are:
1. Tears of Joy by Slow Club
I don’t think words can actually describe my intense love for this song. I am fully obsessed, and have been for at least 5 months. It’s chill, it’s unique and it’s easy to sing along to. Their entire album ‘Complete Surrender’ is incredible, but this one’s my favourite.
So i’ve decided that i’m going to start a new thing hopefully, where I read books and post my reviews on them once i’m done. One of my new year resolutions this year was to read a book a month, which I honestly haven’t been doing. I go through phases where I’ll read no books for four months, then i’ll read 6 all at once. So hopefully I can remember to write about them!
The first book i’ll be looking at is The Girl on The Train by Paula Hawkins. It’s going to be pretty brief, as I didn’t want to include any spoilers!
First Impressions before reading the book:
I know nothing about it except that people have been comparing it to Gone Girl, which I’ve read and liked so fingers crossed. I actually have the kindle version so I don’t have the physical book to look at, but going by the images of the cover I found on Google, it seems pretty ominous; “you don’t know her, but she knows you.” I’m really excited to start it actually.
