July Wrap Up

Normally I would do my books read and music listened to for the month separately, but I figured this month I would just stick them together for a post.

The Books:

Last month I read a total of three books. Not fantastic, but arguably not the worst effort in the world. This month I’m hoping to do a bit better.

Book one: The Versions of Us by Laura Barnett

I’m not going to go into this one because I already wrote a review on it, but I’m a bit in two minds about this book. There’s aspects of it I liked, and others that I didn’t really get along with.

You can read my full (always spoiler free) review here.

Book two: The Noise of Time by Julian Barnes

I picked this up on a whim because I studied Russian history at school (many, many years ago) and thought it was really interesting. The novel is basically about a musician who doesn’t agree with “the power” and is scared of being taken to the house and killed- the power being Stalin. It’s more about art and the consequences of going against power and the impact it has on his life. I wanted to love it, but I just didn’t. There wasn’t anything in particular that I hated, I guess it just wasn’t really my thing.

Book three: The Power by Naomi Alderman

Again I won’t go into this one much because I’ve just newly posted a review on it, which you can read here. Unlike half the books I’ve read recently, I did actually like this one! Finally! I promise I’m not always so negative. And I do love a bit of supernatural mixed with my feminist themes.

The music:

Unlike usual, I’m not going to post an embedded video to every song because that’s going to take up way too much room in this post. Also, because as you might have noticed, I listen to basically the same songs every month. What I would say though is I haven’t actually listened to a lot of music this month at all, which is very unlike me.

1. Break – Frightened Rabbit

2. I Wish I Was Sober – Frightened Rabbit

3. Fiction – The xx

4. Die Like A Rich Boy – Fightened Rabbit

5. Under The Pressure – The War on Drugs

6. Wait ‘Til The Morning – Frightened Rabbit

7. Crystalised – The xx

8. Salad Days – Mac Demarco

9. Into The Wild – Lewis Watson

10. Falling In Love At A Coffee Shop – Landon Pigg

Guess who I’ve been listening to quite a bit this month? To be fair, Frightened Rabbit’s Painting of a Panic Attack is phenomenal and I would recommend it to anyone.
