Music Top 10: February

And I am back with another thrilling instalment of my music top 10. I’m afraid that my concerns from last month that these would all feature the same songs is still somewhat true, but it’s almost all new ones in there, surprisingly! I listen to a lot of music, but I’m one of those terrible serial repeaters. You know, the people who listen to songs on repeat for hours and then get so sick of it they can’t bear to listen to the song anymore? Yep, that’s me.

1. Got Well Soon by Breton.

I’m sorry. I did think it was likely that this song would make a reappearance, because it’s still one of my absolute favourites right now. I wonder if i’ll ever get sick of it. I love Breton anyway, but that backing track is just sooooo good.  If you want to know what I said about it before, you can read my last post here.

2. Polish Girl by Neon Indian

This must have narrowly missed out last month because my love for this song is eternal. If you’ve never listened to Neon Indian and you’re a fan of synth-y catchy music, then you’ll love this.

3. Julia by Jungle

Jungle are an all round fantastic band, i’m a big fan of some of their other songs, Time and Busy Earnin’ to name a few of their most popular ones. They have a really distinctive sound, and when this popped up in my Spotify Discover Weekly playlist (a goldmine of great music, if you’ve got Spotify!) I knew I would love it.

4. One Great Song and I Could Change The World by Swim Deep

If you’ve never heard of Swim Deep’s music, you need to get on it straight away. Their newest album, Mothers, is fantastic, but this song is my personal favourite. I find his voice quite soothing, I don’t know if that’s a weird thing to say or not. Anyway, i’d highly recommend.

5. Dancing In The Dark by Hot Chip

I’ve been a Hot Chip fan since Ready For The Floor, I love how wonderfully weird and catchy their music is. This is a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing In The Dark, with their very own little twist of adding a bit of LCD Soundsystem’s ‘All My Friends’ in for good measure, which is actually my favourite bit in the song. It’s electropoppy goodness and it just puts me in a good mood instantly.

6. Dreams by Beck

Beck’s been on the go for so long and is still releasing amazing quality music, which is pretty impressive in my opinion. This was actually released last summer, but seems to have gotten quite popular recently off the back of Fifa 16 according to the Youtube comments.

7. Kemosabe by Everything Everything

This song is actually quite old now, and Everything Everything do have a much newer album out with great songs on it, but this song is still so good! If you can figure out what he’s saying (or just look up the lyrics) they’re really interesting and you can tell that they put a lot of thought into them, which is always a treat! Also they rhyme Kalashnikoving with monologuing which I thought was fantastic.

8. Ophelia by The Lumineers

I’ve seen a lot of hate for The Lumineers recently, but as a fan of the band I’ve been patiently waiting for new music since their self-titled album. This didn’t disappoint me at all. I’m really excited to hear the rest of their new stuff!

9. Itch by Nothing But Thieves

I was obsessed with this song when it first came out after hearing it on Radio 1, but I’ve neglected it a bit until recently when I put an old playlist on in my car, and basically I’ve been loving it again since. If you’re a fan of bands like Royal Blood, you’ll probably like this.

10. Different by The Academic

I’d never heard of The Academic before this song was the first to pop up on Spotify’s running music feature, which is funny because I don’t run and I was trying it out by running around my kitchen! I wouldn’t say this has been one of my favourites this month, but I still think it’s worth a mention, it is a super catchy song, even if it does sound kind of similar to a lot of other songs I’ve heard in that genre.

And that’s my music top 10 done for another month! I genuinely am actually surprised that most of these songs were different from last month’s, with the exception of Got Well Soon, which has been a staple of mines since before Christmas anyway so there was no doubt it was going to appear again. My goal for next month is to have entirely new songs. I don’t know if anyone actually cares about the music I listen to, but I enjoy it so i’m going to keep going anyway.

If you’d like to see what i’m listening to, you can find me on Spotify and
